David Obey (D-WI) t the National Press Club luncheon Monday afternoon provided the real answer for the downward trend in violence in Baghdad:

“One of the reason we’ve had incidents of violence, sectarian violence go down is because they are running out of people to kill,”

“They’ve killed so many in so many areas, that there are fewer opportunity targets, if you want to put it that way, for each side,” Obey said. “I welcome any reduction in the level in violence for whatever reasons it occurs, but I don’t think that tells us much for what the future is going to be.”

Nope, the surge wasn’t responsible for the reduction in violence, nor could it have been the willingness of the Iraqi people to support the MNF-I by providing invaluable information aiding in the killing or capture of terrorists. Nope, it wasn’t any of those things. I was simply because there are no people left to kill…
