CRIME SCENES Police apologize to injured boy
Alvin Williams' summer is pretty much over. The 5-year-old can't run around with his friends. Instead, he sits in a folding chair on the front porch of his grandfather's house off York Road in North Baltimore, his broken right leg wrapped in a cast and propped up on another chair. His leg was broken when a Baltimore police cruiser ran over it last week. This week, a top department officer paid Alvin a visit. Lt. Col. Michael J. Andrew brought chocolate cake, Adam Jones and Matt Wieters bobbleheads, a patch that made the child an honorary police officer and the promise of tickets to an Orioles game.

A close brush with violence
Stabbing of her brother 8 years ago colors mayor's view of issue

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake rarely speaks of the day eight years ago when the city's dangers literally fell through her front door. But her brother's stabbing shaped the way she views violent crime and has deepened her empathy for victims and their families.

A Lingering Question of Obama’s Competence
Filed under: — Robert Farrow @ 7:31 am

From Flopping Aces

If the Administration cannot get even simple details right, then how can they cope effectively with the major challenges we confront?

Remember the laugh when the White House misspelled Obama’s name on an official document relating to Arms Control agreements with the Russians? At the time, it was good for a chuckle.

Now, people are starting to wonder if the boys and girls who arrived at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue on the Smoke and Mirrors Hopey-Changey express may not be quite up to the job.

Take for instance the controversial Presidential address Obama will deliver to schoolchildren on Tuesday. Don’t you think someone at the White House would have bothered to check if all the nation’s schools would be open for pupils that day? Apparently not:

Schools in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Buffalo, Seattle, Eugene OR, Arlington NY and perhaps many others will not be open until after Tuesday. Hundreds of thousands of students will not be subjected to the dear leader’s rant.

And get this: the White House and Obama folks at the Dept. of Education, (who distributed the instructions which have caused so much controversy), misspelled schoolchildren in the announcement. On both web sites the media advisory reads “President Obama Delivers National Address to America’s Schoochildren.”

Remember, these folks were supposed to be the best and the brightest and would restore people’s faith in government after the Bush years. But they seem to spend all their time in partisan attack politics and slick gimmicks like this speech instead of paying attention to details of governing.

Ed Morrisey, writing at Hot Air stirs this latest goof into the soup of missteps and malfunctions which seem to be a weekly occurrence with this bunch. In concluding, he asks this question:

Who could have warned us that a man who served seven years in the state legislature and three years in the Senate would not have been prepared for the toughest executive position in the Free World? We did. Repeatedly. So did John McCain, and for that matter, so did Hillary Clinton.

Yes, we did warn voters. Repeatedly. We warned them about Obama’s shady past, his radical liberal associates who were the best clue as to who and what he really was. We warned voters about Obama’s big spending and socialist agenda and about the racebaiting that he practiced during the campaign.

Obama said that was all scare tactics even if he doesn’t look like the other president’s on the dollar bills. But Americans have learned the hard way. That’s what is motivating them to come out and protest by the millions.

Olbermann Gets His Feelings Hurt….Wants Liberals To Inform On Glenn Beck

Who’s says this loser is obsessed:

Send Me Everything You Can Find About Glenn Beck
by Keith Olbermann
Sun Sep 06, 2009 at 10:14:03 AM PDT

I don’t know why I’ve got this phrasing in my head, but: Find everything you can about Glenn Beck, Stu Burguiere, and Roger Ailes.

No, even now, I refuse to go all caps.

No, sending me links to the last two Countdowns with my own de-constructions of his biblical vision quality Communist/Fascist/Socialist/Zimbalist art at Rockefeller Center (where, curiously, he works, Comrade) doesn’t count. Nor does sending me links to specious inappropriate point-underscoring prove-you’re-innocent made-up rumors.

Tuesday we will expand this to the television audience and have a dedicated email address to accept leads, tips, contacts, on Beck, his radio producer Burguiere, and the chief of his tv enablers, Ailes (even though Ailes’ power was desperately undercut when he failed to pull off his phony “truce” push).

This becomes necessary after this in order to prove various cliches about goose and gander, and to remind everybody to walk softly and carry a big popsicle, and most particularly to save this nation from the Oligarhy of The Stupid.

I keep wondering if somewhere somebody named Ollie Garhey thinks he’s in charge now. Or, even more entertainingly and societally satisfying, if somebody named Ali Garhi does.

Despite the worn-out snark above, I am in earnest here.

Of course he makes the excuse that he wants this in answer to Becks call for information on Cass Sunstein…it couldn’t be because Beck was successful in outing Van Jones as the truther he is and, with the help of the blogs (and no help from the msm), forced the nut to resign.

Naw…couldn’t be that.

More here.

Finally:

BREAKING NEWS! Van Jones has Resigned.

Another one under the bus:

A big salute to Glenn Beck on this one. He’s the guy who first sounded the alarm and got the ball rolling. I believe that this is just the beginning of a long process and that Beck will prove to be a 2009 version of Woodward and Bernstein.

Here’s a YouTube clip of where this all started (with a little humor mixed in as well).

Roll the tape:

Jones’ statement of resignation below the fold.

“I am resigning my post at the Council on Environmental Quality, effective today,” Jones said in a resignation letter released by the CEQ late Saturday.

“On the eve of historic fights for health care and clean energy, opponents of reform have mounted a vicious smear campaign against me. They are using lies and distortions to distract and divide,” he said.

“I have been inundated with calls — from across the political spectrum — urging me to ’stay and fight,’” he continued. “But I came here to fight for others, not for myself. I cannot in good conscience ask my colleagues to expend precious time and energy defending or explaining my past. We need all hands on deck, fighting for the future.

“It has been a great honor to serve my country and my President in this capacity. I thank everyone who has offered support and encouragement. I am proud to have been able to make a contribution to the clean energy future. I will continue to do so, in the months and years ahead.”

Foxworth out for year with knee injury (The Canadian Press)
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Baltimore Ravens cornerback Domonique Foxworth will miss the upcoming NFL season with a knee injury.

Ravens CB Foxworth out for year with knee injury (AP)
Baltimore Ravens cornerback Domonique Foxworth will miss the season with a knee injury. The veteran was hurt Thursday during an informal practice period. Coach John Harbaugh said Friday that Foxworth tore his ACL without being touched. The Ravens already had two cornerbacks, Lardarius Webb and Fabian Washington, coming back from knee injuries.

Ravens Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

Nose tackle Terrence Cody, a second-round pick, passed his conditioning test Wednesday and was cleared to practice with the team.

Cody said he weighs 350 pounds.

"I'll have to admit that I was surprised this morning when he passed the conditioning test," said coach John Harbaugh, who declined to say if the Ravens put a number on what they want Cody to weigh. "But we have it on tape that will verify the results of the test. Obviously, it shows you that he was in shape. He's a little heavy right now. He's got to lose little weight, but that will happen in training camp. But the fact that he's in shape is important. That shows you that he's done the work."

The hot topic surrounding Cody since the Ravens selected him has been his eating habits.
